About This Fundraiser

TNKR will be having its third 1,000+ won book sale! We don't have the space for a library, but many of the refugees studying in our program love having books in English. For the next four weeks, we will be holding a book donation drive.

We have held two previous book sales, and they were really popular with TNKR students.

* Our preference is for English language and ESL books that TNKR students can use in tutoring sessions. If you are donating two copies of the same book, please keep them together, the refugee could then share that copy with tutors.

* Other books, such as bilingual books with translations, are also acceptable, although we will instruct students to use those for self-study, not during study sessions.

* And all other books, regardless of language, will also be accepted, but again that will be for the personal enjoyment of TNKR students.

We will sell them for 1,000 won each at a book sale for North Korean refugees (occasionally a few books get marked up in price). We will hold the sale when we collect enough books. In previous book sales, we had at least 300 to 500 books.

You can mail the books or drop them off at our office. In particular, we will be ready on Fridays to receive donated books, but other times are fine. Please call ahead in all situations unless you plan to drop off the books at our door and to run off.

In addition to books, school supplies would also be great. We hope eventually to be able to offer a welcome packet for students (pens, pencils, notebooks, bags, folders, USBs, other items that could be useful for students).

In addition to this, TNKR volunteers have been collecting a database of online study materials, so you could also donate such things (although we don't include copyrighted materials in the database).

If you can't visit during our regular business hours, especially on Friday, contact me to arrange a different time.

If you don't have any books or supplies to donate, no problem! You could donate 5,000 won per refugee for the early birds to be able to pick up five books for free. Donate 10,000 won, we will give two book coupons to the first two refugees who arrive, and so on.

About Happy Birthday, Casey Lartigue!

September 5th!!! It is the birthday of TNKR Co-founder Casey Lartigue Jr!!

Mr. Casey is an American now living and working in South Korea. Instead of working as a researcher or commentator in the USA, he has been working directly with North Korean refugees for 7 years. Even though he isn't Korean, he established TNKR in 2013 along with Eunkoo Lee. Behind-the-scenes, he counsels, mentors and sponsors North Korean refugees.

We asked Mr. Casey how we could celebrate his birthday this year. We aren't surprised when he said: "A fundraiser for TNKR. All gifts for me, except expensive cars, can be donated to TNKR."

Together, let's make a great fundraiser for TNKR, to honor Mr. Casey's great work. No contribution to this goal is too small, and we appreciate any help in supporting TNKR to continue working with North Korean Refugees.

Please watch these testimonials from TNKR volunteers, staffers, fans, donors and, of course, North Korean refugee students wishing Mr. Casey a Happy Birthday!
