About This Fundraiser
Having escaped from a society where the educational system is extremely behind, the battle for North Korean refugees is not over. In South Korea, the English language is taught from an early age and most examinations leading up to university admissions and job qualifications demand English as one of the three major courses - North Koreans are at a serious disadvantage when they arrive, on top of all the other adjustment difficulties that they face. TNKR, a non-profit organisation, aims to support this adjustment by offering English tutoring, as well as coaching in public speaking and presentational skills. TNKR wants to ensure that North Korean refugees can become economically stable and develop in a society where the English language is an integral skill. Importantly, this gives the refugees the voice to tell their own story, spreading awareness of the situation in North Korea from those who actually experienced it themselves. TNKR’s teaching system sounds out as it values specificity, giving independence to their students by allowing them to choose a tutor that best suits their interests and personality. Please support the cause and donate!
"What should be done about North Korea?" "How can we help North Koreans and North Korean refugees?" TNKR has put those questions to refugees studing in the organization. Several refugees are now developing projects, with assistance from TNKR volunteers, to create and develop orginal and authentic projects related to North Korea.
TNKR learners are in charge of the projects, developing leadership and management skills. They can also develop projects giving advice to others who want to increase freedom for North Koreans still in North Korea or to help North Koreans adjust to living in the outside world.
