About This Fundraiser
I'm a 19-year-old from Helsinki, Finland who just graduated from high school.
After three and a half hard and exhausting years in high school I finally made it. As my graduation gift I wanted to set up this fundraiser for TNKR, that I have truly come to love.
Ever since I first read about TNKR, I instantly fell in love with it. After reading many books written by refugees, I truly value and love what TNKR does to help North Korean refugees. I want to do my share to help and raise money to support TNKR and North Korean refugees.
Please help me help TNKR and donate to my high school graduation fundraiser. It would be the best graduation gift for me, that goes directly into a good use for a good cause. All the money that is donated to this graduation fundraiser goes straight to TNKR.
Even the smallest donations are highly and warmly appreciated and welcome!
About General Fund
In November 2016, the Ministry of Unification in South Korea reported that the number of North Korean refugees escaping to South Korea had surpassed 30,000. Various media report various challenges that refugees face in adjusting to South Korea. An estimated 35 percent of refugees are unemployed, 80 percent work in menial jobs, and refugees who are employed earn 50% of what South Koreans earn.
Escaping North Korea is the first battle many refugees face. Many report that English is a major barrier for many of them, as they struggle with "Konglish" words that have seeped into the South Korean language. TNKR helps refugees by connecting them with volunteer tutors. Since its founding in March 2013, TNKR has connected 315 refugees with more than 650 volunteer tutors and coaches.
