About This Fundraiser

On Sunday March 18, 2018, I will be participating in the Seoul International 10k. I will be running for a cause and representing an organization I recently became involved with while living in South Korea, Teach North Korean Refugees. With TNKR support, refugees are given the opportunity to study English one-on-one with volunteers living in and around Seoul. TNKR is committed to providing assistance for students seeking education, in addition to supporting targeted educational programs. Since the inception, TNKR proudly has impacted the lives of many North Korean defectors by creating outreach programs to help them learn English, share their stories with the world and establish themselves as influential contributors in society.

I am excited I will be representing and running for a cause I believe in, this will also be my first race while living abroad. Please support me in this effort to raise 210,000won (200USD) - each donation will benefit TNKR and provide opportunities for North Korean defectors to create a fresh start for themselves.

I really appreciate all of your help and support! Please reach out if you have any questions about the fundraiser! :)

About General Fund

In November 2016, the Ministry of Unification in South Korea reported that the number of North Korean refugees escaping to South Korea had surpassed 30,000. Various media report various challenges that refugees face in adjusting to South Korea. An estimated 35 percent of refugees are unemployed, 80 percent work in menial jobs, and refugees who are employed earn 50% of what South Koreans earn.

Escaping North Korea is the first battle many refugees face. Many report that English is a major barrier for many of them, as they struggle with "Konglish" words that have seeped into the South Korean language. TNKR helps refugees by connecting them with volunteer tutors. Since its founding in March 2013, TNKR has connected 315 refugees with more than 650 volunteer tutors and coaches.
