About This Fundraiser
Please join long-term TNKR volunteer Peter Daley and writer/activist Rachel Stine for a night of music and prizes at The Alley Bunker in HBC on Saturday June all in aid of the worthy cause that is TNKR.
Some articles about the work TNKR does and its students:
Ken Eom was recently featured on CNN. He attended this event and spoke about his life in North Korea and his involvement with TNKR. Ken is one of Peter Daley's TNKR students.
The night will also see the debut performance of a new local cover band called Seoul Mates featuring vocalist Emilie Chardonnay, drummer Benjamin Jacquot, bassist François Bogusz, guitarist Peter Daley, and special guest saxophonist Tim Crawford. Also performing throughout the night will be Machine 2 The Moon and Honey Jam Sam. Please check them out on Facebook:
The night will end with a free for all jam in which those able and willing will perform song requests for the low price of 10.000 a song. So get your thinking caps on for that special song you want to hear, and musicians brush up on all those classics old and new. Songs can be requested in advance on the event's Facebook page.
The date also almost coincides with Rachel Stine's recent birthday. Rachel has a long history of supporting defectors in South Korea and is heavily involved in almost anything and everything related to North Korea.
Prizes for the night's on-going raffle have been donated by generous local businesses. More details to come.
This fundraiser is for people that can't attend on the night, but of course you're welcome to both attend and donate. Actually, we'd prefer that!
About Voices from the North
During 2021, the Teach North Korean Refugees Global Education Center (TNKR) will be focused on the "Voices from the North" project. The major activities of the project will be partnering with North Korean refugees who seek to:
* publish books in English.
* become more engaged with public speaking.
* participate in at least one English speech contest.
* speak at an international forum.
* share their insights in roundtable discussions.
If you would like to hear a variety of North Korean stories, become a monthly donor to this special project.
