About This Fundraiser

June 20th is World Refugee Day, as recognized by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

It's a day of reflection and support for all of us.

We are asking you to donate "a nice meal" - a small sacrifice from yourself that makes a real contribution towards the future of North Korean Refugees. 10,000won, 20,000won, 35,000won -- won't you share the equivalent of "one nice meal" for their cause?

Freedom Speakers International (formerly TNKR) provides opportunities for North Korean Refugees to share their message of escape, survival, support, and growth in their new homeland. We are a voluntary organization, but we have real costs -- supporting speakers financially and with administrative. FSI is also developing publication of a number of books from North Korean Refugees, in various languages.

About World Refugee Day 2021

Yeonmi Park, author of In Order to Live:

When I was in North Korea, I never saw superhero movies. I never even heard words like Superman, Spiderman or even Wonder Woman. I am always fascinated how people here are somewhat obsessed with superhero movies. I do truly believe that people genuinely want to help others and human nature is compassionate.

However, what people don’t realize is that they don’t need to have a superpower like heroes in the movies to help other people. To me, being free and having a voice is a superpower that I never thought I could have. In that sense, we are all superheroes and have the ability to help others.

What would you do with your superpower? Would you use it to help someone who is less fortunate than yourself?

Today is World Refugee Day! When I was a refugee, I felt like I was somewhat less of a human than non-refugee people.

Being born into oppression and poverty is nobody’s fault. By some mysterious luck, some people born into freedom and prosperity and some don’t.

So I kindly ask if you want to use your superpower today to help North Korean refugees.

Often people think our journey ends when we arrive in South Korea, but it is just the begging for us. There are still mountains of obstacles for us to overcome to survive in freedom and FSI smooths this rough process for us to overcome.

I am deeply grateful for your support for my mission to free North Koreans. Hope you all take care xoxo
